While I love the concept in theory of a Blood Oath among siblings or like a band of brothers, I see this as being abused. Especially with it being unbreakable. While we can say it's meant more for siblings, we know it's going to be used romantically. And I fear especially in regards to new citizens ...

I personally think both have purposes. Speaking as someone who is (attempting at least) to make a communal area I think you need both the gathering spots and private areas.
