Mortal Life
Born January 2, 1722, Annabelle was the first child of James and Moghaire Adair. Her family rented their land and farmed it to pay the landlord the rent. Growing up, the Adairs often went without food. Moghaire's favorite, or, at least most often used, phrase was "if we love each other enough, we will never be hungry."
When Annabelle was 16 years old, she was taken by the landlord to his castle as payment for the rent that her father could not pay. For six months, Moghaire wrote her daughter weekly letters, promising they would bring her home soon. After the letters ceased coming, Annabelle learned that her home, along with her father, mother, and two brothers, had burned to the ground.
Annabelle lived and worked in the castle for 6 years, until the fall of 1744. That fall, a group of wealthy travelers passed through, and were given lodging at the landlord's castle. They were an odd sort, the staff thought, but they never complained and seemed to appreciate the extra fuss given them for serving meals at odd hours, and not disturbing them during the day.
On the last night of the group's stay at the castle, Annabelle was working in the stables making sure the visitors' horses and carriage would be ready before daybreak, the time they wished to leave. An explosion erupted in the main house and set it ablaze instantly. As she ran towards the castle, one of the woman visitors, Laurene, grabbed her and dragged her back to the barn, then ordered her to hitch up the horses. The two women watched the entire castle burn from inside the carriage and just before the sun came up, one other visitor emerged from the rubble with the landlord in tow.
The last question Annabelle was asked, before being made immortal, was "If you could kill anyone, who would it be?" She didn't answer the question, just stared with accusing eyes at the only other human who had survived the fire.
Immortal Life before the City of Ravenblack
Annabelle spent the first 10 years of her vampiric life chained to the only person she had ever hated as a human. After leaving the smoldering castle, Laurene and Jesopoth turned both of the humans. Disgusted by all three of them, Annabelle attempted escape at every chance she could get until she was forced into chains. The trio, with Annabelle in tow, traveled the wartorn Scottish Highlands until rumors circulated about the group and they found themselves on the run. During the group's escape from Scotland, Laurene forgot to secure Annabelle one night and she escaped, never to see them again.
The redhead spent her time traveling the world, alone, sometimes meeting others of her kind, but mostly preferring solitude. In 2002, she met Narcisssa and CPGKeyca, who told her about the City of Ravenblack and persuaded her to come see it for herself.
