ISTG this had me laughing so hard. Just the tone of it and knowing how Charlie is as a character... this really made my day.

But that's the thing. If you know his character, you know this is exactly how he is. You can't be offended by his nature (I mean you could, but that makes no sense by an OOC perspective) if that is how he is naturally written. I laugh not at what happened with Alise but the fact that he went in and:

1. Said what he did.

2. Called Alise out on her stuff.

3. Called everyone out with the straightforwardness of a shark if anyone tried to backtalk him at all.

You really did an amazing job embodying his thoughts and wrapping them into one post. It's the characterization of a good writer, and that's why I love you (and him) so much.

ETA: I mean, the fact that he admitted Alise had him TRAPPED in a closet in his shop for three hours was, alone, enough to make me laugh.

He's one of my favorites, as you well know, and I'll always be happy to watch him let his hair down.

I loved every second of it. I wanted to write Alex being like "I like you" but had to remind myself that Alex has the emotional capacity of a green bean at the moment.

The way you craft sentences is truly amazing.

While I'm, by no means, a paradigm of proper behavior and I have my own sordid ways, let's not paint and veil the 'dead' with nostalgia and praise, just yet. It'd be better, really, if we didn't romanticize them at all. Romanticizing those who've passed on does nothing for anybody. I'm of the firm belief that eulogies should all end, 'And remember, they fucked and shat and cried and pissed and their noses ran and their bodies created mucous and they had pimples and made weird smells and they were all skeletous brambles wrapped in piggish fat.'

I read this a dozen times because of how perfect it was.

that's very uplifting. despite being told that on several occasions, i'm still somewhat shy about sharing the things i write. i'm afraid i'll look back on it in a year and then hate it and judge myself and be like, 'that was the most pretentious garbage i ever wrote,' which i have a tendency to do. i'm not worried about charlie sounding like pretentious garbage, because that's exactly what he is, and i like to write as authentically as i can.

he was really just raving about alise and the broom closet. he holds grudges. he's like, 'on august tenth of the year two-thousand-and-eighteen, she followed me into my broom closet and assaulted me!'

it's all really dramatic. it wasn't even as bad as he's making it out to be.

Charleston.

Charlie:
pushed Betty out.
hid in the broom closet.

Alise:
walked into the broom closet.
shut the door.
breathed on him.

Charlie:
...
Well, this is awkward.
I was just looking for a dust pan.

Alise:
Want to play seven minutes in heaven?

Charlie:
What’s that?
Preposterous.
I don’t play children’s games.

Alise:
It’s not a children’s game.

Charlie:
was glad it was dark.
What is it?

Alise:
An adult game.

Charlie:
How is that?

Alise:
You have to kiss me.

Charlie:
‘s throat glowed.

Alise:
For seven minutes.

Charlie:
was less happy it was dark.
clicked the light on!

Alise:
blinked.

Charlie:
scowled! Or did as close to a scowl as Charleston MacTavish could, which wasn't really a scowl, at all.
That’s a long time to kiss!

Alise:
looked innocent.
It’s a make out session.

Charlie:
was cramped pretty close. He thought about this.
What does that entail?

Alise:
What?
It entails kissing!

Charlie:
For seven minutes?!
That seems excessive!

Alise:
And grabbing.
I assume.

Charlie:
Grabbing what?!
jostled around.

Alise:
Body parts!
got banged into.
scowled.

Charlie:
was getting nervous.
caught a bucket, pushed it back into place.

I’m not equipped for this!

Alise:
Are you an eunuch!

Charlie:
Perhaps!

Alise:
looked down.
I just know the kissing.

Charlie:
How about we play seven minutes in Hell, instead?
Oh look.
Time is up.
We’ve won.

thank you! lmao! he's terrible. if alex would have told him he likes him, charleston would probably say, 'i'm sorry you feel that way.'

i'm always impressed by how well alex takes everything that's said to him? he's so patient. it kills me.

This. I almost think the character of Alex deserves it's own appreciation thread. He's so well played that many people assume he's not playing it.

I once read Jason Issacs was in England for the first screening of The Patriot, and when he stood up in the theatre in the end, all the people were booing him angrily because of how he presented his English character. He said it was the biggest compliment ever, because he knew he played the villain perfectly.

Also, the guy who played Wayne on the Wonder Years was once at a bar. Some guy walked up to him and said, "I had a brother just like you growing up" and punched him in the face. He too, thought it was the greatest compliment.

"...I feel a storm coming. Several in fact. And which way the winds will blow, not a soul can know. But I can feel it brewing and building, just in my head. It’s going to be a doozy and I’m sorry if it uproots anyone in its path. Bad things happen when I become restless."
