Just came here to say this.
"How fitting a reflection was this? This family could enjoy their time together; their quiet solitude away from the social interactions of the outside world and pay little mind that this very diner used to seldom see an empty seat. He pulled the lapels of his coat up over his cheeks and watched. Perhaps their children would simply come to see this as the norm. They never knew of a time when that diner was crowded and couldn't possibly comprehend the idea of having to wait on a seat. Perhaps they wouldn't have been seen by him at all, rather lost in the crowd, or drowned out by the impressive visage of another family or gathering. It was easy to rise up when there were few and far between instances of others attempting to hold you down."
Latent with nostalgia and introspection that one can truly feel and appreciate along with the character. Loved it.

I really enjoy reading these. As someone who has a few characters with this exact same mindset, it's refreshing to see put down so gracefully. You can feel the struggle of a warrior mind during peace time.
