He felt the chains buried deep into his wrists, ankles, pelvis, and neck. He felt the tools again as they dug into the skin of his side, nearest the stomach, and cold hands slid into his chest as they removed the unnecessary: intestines, stomach, liver, lungs. Then the bugs as they feasted; nipped at his innards, a purposeful torment, not a true process of mummification. When they removed the heart, he fell into a pit of darkness, unconscious and dead. But once it had replaced, he awoke, alive, to the scents of wine and spice; felt the taste of salt in his mouth. He felt his body as it repaired itself from within, but weak and barely managing. Organs began their re-growth but fell short, stunted without substance. There was no wait to stuff his body. The workers bound him in bandages. The amulets which lay lodged within the workings of his mummy-bindings were of a unique, foreign kind, crafted by vampire hands and with meanings known only by vampire kind. The solo piece of human amulet upon his form was the slice of painted wood lined on a cord around his neck and padded beneath a layer of bandages: his name carved onto it.
"No more pain," Menkarjii begged of her in the old language, or perhaps more to the memory itself.
"Please."

SETEPENRE
creator - [lover] - enemy
Founded by Setepenre, the Akh O Penre was an ancient Egyptian-based vampire cult with worship focused on Sekhmet. All vampires inducted into the group were turned by Setepenre herself, a once Egyptian royal; any spawn turned by her childer were killed. The group traveled and openly terrorized smaller villages across Egypt when not hiding in cities. They believed themselves to be incarnations of gods, and the vampire blood as "god blood."
The group held eleven vampires at a time, Setepenre's choice number. If she found a human she wanted to turn and join the group, she would choose a member to ritually kill so that the number would never rise over eleven. In the later days of old Egypt, Setepenre began killing off her childer spawn in the group in an attempt to "cleanse" the blood.
A common punishment by Setepenre was to ritualistically mummify the vampires who did wrong, brains and hearts left in-tact to keep them alive but bodies poisoned, unable to feed or move. Their bodies then were buried, some still lost to the Earth today while others have been uncovered, even sold to museums.
