Read these, please. Read them and then read them again. Commit them to your memory. The beauty of the prose on display in these threads inspires me to be a better writer.

I really am trying to get better at this writing thing. Lol! It helps to have so many writing again.
I thank you all very much for the compliments! They warm the heart. Re: writing, even though nobody asked me and I'm just sharing because I nerd out about writing (as Keo would say, you have activated my trap card, lol) -- I think part of what makes writing really GOOD is being able to be vulnerable and honest with it, and where it comes from. Sharing it when it sucks is also a really incredible practice (and scary, which I know because a lot of my stuff has suuuuuuuucked and will continue to suck**). Which is all to say, yes, people sharing their stuff helps so much in the communal practice of craft, please everyone keep doing it - not for anybody else but for yourselves and each other, your writing partners and groups.
[**anxiety is telling me to ETA: I am not saying anyone sucks, specifically, please do not misunderstand me
I'm saying that as a writer, writing, I suck and have sucked and we should all give ourselves permission to suck because it's so freeing. Let us be cringe and sucky and free. I hope no one took that as me saying their stuff sucks, and if they did, I apologise - wasn't my intention to imply that at all <3]
Anyway I've been thinking a lot about writing lately as usual (don't worry, I'll be less annoying about it soon because school will be back in session and I can nerd at other nerds in live action so I'll leave yall at peace lmao >>), and I've been rereading a bunch of old and new stuff on the Ab lately because I'm a nosy ho and I wanted to shoutout to these folks:

The story of Fera and these hunters and paladins has been a treat to read. I love that the writers involved have also used interactions on Fangbook and paragraph posts on the RBB to slowly build, develop, and reveal character and set the stage. I'm invested, I'm stalking Finn and Liam Walsh, spying with my little eye all their interactions and I am SEATED. Why does Finn drink vampire blood? HOW COME LW/LIAM WALSH/LAST WORD MELTS. WHAT THE FUCK. Also, WHERE IS MY FERA? IS SHE OKAY? I HAVEN'T SEEN HER IN A MINUTE. AAAAAAA.
I love it. Give me more. Om nom nom.

I love the intense lorebuilding and world-building you guys have done with the Peacekeepers Guild and the Matsudas and the Fuenteses in tandem. I love that the vibe changes so hard but the stories are still so woven together when you go from the Fuenteses and Ohana, and then to Carrot and the Matsudas. I love that even the colour story in the banner changes with the vibe -- from warm and almost firey to cool, neon, underground blue. A connection to moon dieties and sun deities? I AM EATING. I AM BEING FED.
Additionally, I think it's a huge, radical act of vulnerability and generosity to invite other people to play with your lore at will. Yall have really inspired me to dig into the world around our characters; how our characters see the world around them (and the setting as a character itself) is such a huge clue into the characters themselves. The flavour is impeccable. It's a vibe cuntissimo slay. Thank you for inviting us into the story.

I remember reading this years ago and being so inspired by how vivid the description here is. The prose? MWAH. The description of the lighting and the UNNNHHHH. That kind of gross kiss specifically is going to stand out to me and will always live in my mind rent-free. Your descriptions are always so intense and vivid and gripping. Sempai, notice me. U complete me. Never stop writing with me or else I will wither and die.

Gaz and her boys have always been such an inspo to me when it comes to creating characters, even back in the before-fore when I was only writing Sunday-Go. The boys are so -- I'm going to overuse this word -- vivid, and Gaz's relationships with them so alive. The way you describe your characters -- the way they talk to and about each other...? Again: more rent-free living.

First of all: genius prompt. Was a great way to explore the world around my characters and express it in a way that felt ... idk, germane. IDK if that makes sense, lol. But that's what I'm sticking with. The Mind Electric is a thread I like to come back to because 1.) god, Andy breaks my heart and 2.) the language of imagery in dreams -- yas, what a vibe slay. Feels like a film, feels like a poem. Feed meeeee (and P.S., thank you for inviting us/me into the story! Damn it, the Saints of Salem lore is hot as fuck, pardon my French. There's so much meat in it, and it's so unique in that it's based in a more contemporary body of stories -- conspiracy theories and What Lies Beneath the polite veneer of society. It's gritty, it's gripping, and it brr my brain. This lore is hot -- thank yall for sharing it with people like me to play with.

I've been curious about Koli as a character recently and I saw this while I was trawling through old Ab posts. He doesn't speak much in public, as far as I know, and the times I have seen him, he's been kind of -- idk, not shy, but reticent? about sharing his thoughts. It's cool to see quiet characters' thoughts about the city and "how it got here." It's something that my characters have thought about as well, so it's interesting to see parallels when we've not ever written together nor have our characters ever interacted beyond a 'sup.'

This is such an interesting characterisation of a setting like the Lovers Dawn inn, and the city itself. A hungry inn? HOT. Does that then translate to the idea of a hungry city? EVEN HOTTER. "If so, what kind of landscape will be painted in a place frequented by the hungry, the unliving, the hunters of the night?" Om, nom nom, nom nom. As a character, Malkin Grim feels like someone outside of time and place, or at least outside of the time and place of where many other characters reside. Which works so WELL for them as a shapeshifter --- and also why I LOVE my blorboship, Grim and Shadow. The two of them complement each other so well --- they're travellers out of the usual time-and-place, and I love that Shadow doesn't even know that Grim can turn into a bird.
I'm getting off topic, but I just love those two and I think their stories and plotlines should KITH. Please gib.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but if I have, I'll say it again. I love this insider look into Moonring's POV and her wrapping her mind around this city and its rituals. I love that we get to see her process all of this side-by-side with the sweet/warm/almost mundane things she thinks about: "Her body was raw, blistered, and soaked in blood and holy water. Her face burned, her hands trembling as she tried to shield her eyes. But she didn’t falter. She stood tall, head high, her resolve unbroken.
Let them throw their holy water. Let them burn her. She would walk this path to its end, on her terms." contrasted with texted hearts and thoughts about cats? Moonring's constant hunger and her supposition that "she never denies herself" (when I know from Robert's interactions with her that she does, actually, deny herself a lot, thus her being in denial of her denial)? Her character progression this season? OM, NOM, NOM.

You've told me about Joy's return to the land of the (un?)living and her passenger and with this and some of the other threads you've posted (where I can read and spy on your blorbo, bless you, thank you hehehe). I love that the passenger is called "The Artist" and the references to dada and the stream of consciousness that you write these in. There's so much character in the narration, there's so much mystery, and I love how you can go back and reread and find more stuff that you (I) didn't notice before. And I wonder if I'm seeing a pattern emerge where Joy as a conduit/medium to embody other spirits' desires and will is not also freeing to her in some way, where Joy goes "so yes, I stunted any part of myself that didn't earn me approval. Except that I was young and stupid and didn't know how to get praise from the people I respected"? Because she's wild when she's "possessed" - she slams her head into bar tops and flails about and I'm sure at these points she doesn't care about what she looks like. Cannot, even. (Possession flipped on its head and turned into empowerment and freedom [eta: liberation?]is a pet theme of mine, so please ignore me if this is not your intention for the character - it's just what I'm reading!)
There's more, but I gotta go shower now.
Point is, thank you everyone for the radical act of vulnerability and generosity of inviting us all into your stories and sharing your work. It's scary, it's anxiety-enducing, and it's so fuckin' hard, but thank you for continuing to do the thing. It's important and it's inspiring. <3

Taking a moment to say thank you to Nikki for highlighting all these lovely writers - and I guess me pftt - these are all brilliantly written, I want to see so much more and peek behind the curtains into this vast cityscope we have. There's so many inner worlds going on that just add to this melting pot of a city that feels so very human for a bunch of supernatural's. (a good thing)
Just to add this: Utterly obsessed with this.
Yes, feed me the cultish/political faction cultures and the what-the-fuck-are-you guildmasters. And the fashion defiance, YES QWUEEN. I CANNOT agree more with Nikki on this worldbuilding and how eatable it is and how vivid and ugh - it just reaffirms my notion of a very eldritch feeling about the city, and I love that none of us can write with 100% certainty about it, which has our characters viewpoints of it so drastically different with NONE of them being wrong. This is what I love about writing, though, you can see the love and thought Carrot and Broccoli put into the peacekeepers and battlecloaks, and personally I'm so here for it. I'm here for all of it. It's bringing a beautiful narrative to an often overlooked or even IC mocked mechanic that I think is sorely needed.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN GODCRAFTED!? I must know more. 10/10 I'm just gushing.

thank you guys so much for enjoying the pieces. truly. aimee and I have been thoroughly having fun exploring our characters and their places within this world, and giving the plots and things around them context, and we're excited to share them and their stories with you guys. our stories (everyone's) are deeply personal and I love seeing other peoples takes on this game and the arena we've been playing in for like two decades. it's amazing. the creativity here inspires, always.
which, speaking of, now that I have a chance to get caught up on some of my reading! the way this thread reads like some of my favorite shows and movies just instantly puts it on my "must read" list. that's so freaking fun. the characters, their distinct voices, the visualizations that are being served to us... *chef's kiss.* i love this.
and for this thread, listen I am biased and I own that, but seeing more and more of carrot the character and exploring how multi-faceted she is as a character, with so many moving parts to her, it's literally what inspires me to write anything. it isn't just that you leave me wanting more, it's that you leave my jaw on the floor in the process.

in my opinion, the best type of writing reflects the characters you're writing for, how they feel about the world they live in, and what they hold value and belief in. its the most enjoyable thing for reading, and i think your writing does a great job at portraying just how passionate of a person pea is about what she cares about. it reads very true, and I'm glad you're posting more of that!ladypeacek wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 5:06 amI really am trying to get better at this writing thing. Okay, but like way all this - The Keeper of Peace, Not Like Us, and Neutral News - all weaves together is very chef's kiss.

Damn sorry lemme gush. You can see how strong fera’s voice has gotten over this journal. Keo, this voice is incredible. The way Fera plays with a language that isn’t her own, the way it shapes her view of the world, the way fjrjfjjrjd fjfj
It’s such good character work. It’s such good WRITING. The control of language when it comes to Fera is maasterful bro, take my money and write a novella of her alreaadyyyyyy

I BLUSH, I'm BLUSHING!? I'm glad people are enjoying this silly birb as much as I do, she's got so many feelings the English language can't convey and she's so precious to me for many reasons. (yet so so silly)Thirteen wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 6:35 amviewtopic.php?f=17&t=3328

Editing to add in that I always fear framing characters within a book structure may ruin the magic of them. But she is one I've been thinking of trying that with. I have a chunk of fae characters that might fit a series - Karm's backstory is currently in the works (though it's more focused on the boabhan sith he was a familiar to), and Fera comes in as an interesting addition to something very Other taking interest in the modern, human world and the conflicts that can bring to someone used to the fantastical. What happens when the fae can't thrive off humans being prone to believing anymore? What happens when you aren't actually fae but a stolen thing instead? Language is only one of her hurdles. She's also part bird, which is weird as hell for all humanoids. She's also bloodthirsty, which morally does make her a monster. There's a lot to unpack with her, and I'm just glad her strangeness is so well received.
