OPEN BARS :: A WRITING CHALLENGE & COMPETITION
this is a writing competition and challenge extended to the entire open community.
on grid in RavenBlack City, there are a great number of bars that exist outside of the "local tavern".
a lot.
we use them to hunt for shops and guilds. for tidbits of gossip. and yet.. there's so very little ever said about these places.
below, you'll find a list of all the different bars that are open. i challenge you to write about one.
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS
• submissions must be under 2,000 words.
• please try to choose unused locations if possible!
post here or message me directly on here/on discord (Xixius) if you want to 'claim' a bar in advance.
claims are by chronological dibs, aka first come, first claimed.
only do so if you're locked in to participate.
• submissions must be posted to Ab and a link must be provided in this thread for official submission and review.
• each entry must feature a character entering one of the designated locations and ordering at least one signature drink.
(anything else that happens is up to you!)
• descriptions of these locations will not be considered “canon.” this challenge is an opportunity for creative exploration of underutilized locations.
• please make sure to include trigger warnings at the beginning of your entry if you are including any sensitive, graphic, or NSFW stuff!
• guidelines may be subject to update and clarification based on questions, so please check here often for updates.
• deadline: March 31st at midnight EST.
COLLABORATION & MULTIPLE ENTRIES
joint submissions (collaborations between characters/writers) are allowed and encouraged,
but the total word count must still remain under 2,000 words.
one entry per contestant. joint submissions count as an entry for all involved participants.
PRIZES
1st place will receive:

2nd place will receive:

JUDGING CRITERIA
entries will be judged based on:
• creativity – unique and engaging storytelling.
• characterization – strong character voice and interactions.
• setting & atmosphere – effective use of the chosen location.
• writing quality – grammar, flow, and readability.
