Koli was found as an infant by humans, already a vampire. He may have been turned very early, or born a vampire. Even Koli doesn't know the answers, though he knows where the answers can be found. Koli matured to a young adult, raised on animal blood and living in the human village. In his mid-20's, the animals had become scarce, and a brutal winter caused him to nearly die of starvation. Koli killed and drained his human wife, an act that would cause him guilt for centuries. The villagers beat him nearly to death, and his adoptive father forced Koli to vow that he would return each summer for additional punishment. Koli swore on his dead human mother that he would do so, and fled the village. He was found by a succubus named Scarlet, who opened his eyes to the world of supernatural creatures such as himself. Together they encountered the self-named Lord Blackheart, a human warlock who would become the bane of Koli's existence for the next 7 centuries. Scarlet and Koli stole a collection of spellbooks from the warlock, and escaped at least temporarily.
During the next 7 centuries, Koli spent his time as a wanderer, traveling extensively. He took work amongst humans as a soldier, and spent one glorious decade as a pirate in the Caribbean dubbed Piedro the Seafarer. His travels caused Koli to become passionate about cuisine as he experienced exotic tastes from around the world. In 2006, he received a letter, asking him to travel to a place known as Ravenblack City.
Entering the gates of the city, Koli was stunned for the first time in 100 years. The buildings were, for the most part, small and grimy, but under his feet, the vampire could feel the magic flowing. Powerful and ancient, the city held secrets, for those who knew where to look. Sadly, that number did not include Koli. He found his way to the tavern he'd been requested to visit, and it took 15 years for him to find his way out again.
Lansef+Macht had been the person who had summoned him, hiring Koli to work as a bodyguard for Krimzen. In his time in the tavern, Koli was only indirectly exposed to the other side of Ravenblack City, in ways that held too little context for him to explore them. Strangers would carry the bodies of fallen enemies in, and talk of RoR and Ferrymen held no meaning for him. References of clans and wars did little to intrigue him, a flaw in his thinking that he's determined to correct. Instead, the people of the tavern held his attention, especially the females. Koli bound to saherra as a partner, and sired under DeZZieCutThroat. Eventually, DeZZie and saherra left the city at separate times. Friendships with such people as Pepper, Ice+Lilly, and Rubi carried him through those times. After some time, Koli was approached by pea, about wanting to sire him. He severed from Dezzie with pea's understanding that if his original sire returned soon, Koli would consider returning to her. Shortly after meeting pea and Seyda, Koli left for his annual return to his home village, for his yearly punishment. Before departing, he wrote both a letter, stating that he would be away indefinitely, and that he would miss their company, and looked forward to his return. While he was being punished for the traditional week, 2 other friends discovered his location, and went to rescue Koli against his wishes. They brought him back to the city, where pea came to visit him while he recovered, and their connection deepened. During his time with the Wolfe family, his family, along with Tessa, convinced Koli that he had suffered enough for the death of his human wife. Seyda, and Koli's letting go of his guilt, were able to magically remove the scars of centuries of whipping from his back. Later, Koli and pea confessed their feelings for one another, and bound as partners as well. In that time, Koli has been exposed to the true history of Ravenblack, learning the proper methods of fighting, and joining the war against Julia's family. He questioned the zeroing of Julia's unpowered childer, and Seyda explained that it was a necessary evil. Despite his history of random behavior, Koli is determined to learn more about the history of the city, and improve his skills at war, and expand his construction company.
MISCELLANEOUS BACKGROUND
-Koli has a trace of dragon blood in his veins that allows him to survive daylight, and to summon flames from his skin.
-He makes unbreakable crystal orbs for the people he cares about, and inside the orb is flame replica of the person he made it for, in their favorite color. He does this because when people leave, he doesn't want them to forget him. When they stay, he feels a sense of connection when he looks at his version of the orbs, and hopes that the people who have received them do as well. His method for conjuring the orbs is a spell he found in one of the books that he and Scarlet stole from Lord Blackheart.
-His private space, formerly a cabin, has been removed, and he used the logs to build a treehouse, filled with books, and his copies of the crystal orbs.
-He keeps a garbage bin near the door for crossbow bolts because he would rather run out of energy than let a hunter escape.
-He will follow orders, but if he doesn't understand the motive, he will ask questions first.
