"I'm sorry," the hooded figure said. His voice was alluring, sultry, like a smooth broth on a cold day or a warm cup of coffee, which Olive might have just killed for.

"'Sorry' doesn't fix the problem," she said and though she tripped over some of the correct pronunciations of English words still, she was able to vocalize, unlike Vie who fluttered around behind her, flitting between the sidewalk and the near-empty road.

"We came here with the money--look," she shouted, gesturing to the bag of coins she had been given at the bank. It was simple, trade money at the local banks with the right people for tokens, like a twisted version of Chuck-E-Cheese. Any able-bodied person could bring the tokens to secret hidden locations after you asked around enough to find exactly where these guilds moved to, and then trade the tokens for a magic flick or twist of the wrist--or however they did it.

"I see," the man said, unsympathetically.

"So you take! We brought the money, she is here, she is ready, you take the money and you teach her! You do the magic! We paid! No dis-dis-" she stuttered and frowned because of how hard her lips worked to keep up with her brain. "No discrimination!" she yelled.

"Okay--ok--Miss--Okay!" he shouted back. In his desperation to keep a look-out around them, the hood slid off of his head. He was exactly as Olive had imagined him: short, thinning hair, tired eyes, and gnarled lips that sagged with age. "Come in," he directed. He stepped out of the doorway finally and swept his hand inward.

"Vie," Olive called, hand outstretched and patiently waiting.

"AH-LIVE!" Vie shouted. "My ah-live," she smiled and took Olive's offered hand. Together, they walked up the steps and disappeared into the building.
