Consensus Gentium Poll: What is the role of a journalist in RBC specifically?

One last time for those who haven't been following along, the question posed and discussed has been: "What is the role of a journalist in RBC specifically?"

We've chewed this tough piece of meat long enough and now the only thing left to do is swallow it down with our lumpy opinions. I've previously proposed a summary of opinions offered by others during the debate period (which can be read again HERE). No one objected them so here they are again, but with more polish. Now comes the time where we dance around the 'poll' hoping to sway the masses and collect from them something of value. Deep breath. Here be the poll y'all.

At no point did the "entertain, provoke, and inform" option in the debate include lying or muddling facts and that wasn't an answer you presented at the end of it or I would have raised issue with it then.

It is disappointing that I've upset you, but at this point in the polling I would say that if I've misrepresented this debate I look forward to a redo when it's able to be debated again. I rely on feedback, which stopped about nine days ago and left me with doubt rather than assurance. In the silence, I went freewheeling. I agree now, getting to look at it from your point of view, that if I'm going to borrow words I should use them as they are intended and not go cutting and pasting them together like an anonymous stalker letter.

It is my opinion that the poll should stand, even with it's mistakes, since it has already begun to gather votes. Despite that, I also believe this column is meant to be a representation of mass opinion and mass opinion should supersede my own. If at least 4 people agree to restarting the poll, I will trash it and put it up again with the previously proposed opinions from the 15th. Liander, you are welcome to cast the first vote in favor of a redo.

Here would be what the new poll, with corrections, look likes:

• To deliver information, as free from partiality as they can make it.

• To entertain, provoke, and inform in order to spark activity and discussion.

• To be true to their purpose in whatever they are writing: news should be done straight and columns should be personal, etc.

• Get it right and make it worth our time.

• I do not think any of these answers are a good fit.
